About this deal

The slow, spacious bass and piano and the aching trumpet again refer to the forthcoming ‘Sketches of Spain’ album. As with each title, the music emerges from QRP’s beautifully flat and wonderfully silent surfaces with that much more “there-ness. As the original working title for Bitches Brew, the instruction and invitation resonates to this day as the best way to approach a record that shattered conventions, altered music history, and, more than 50 years later, still sounds far ahead of its time.

Now, for the first time, the five 1958 studio tracks are rightfully coupled – at last –- with the five sextet tracks of Kind of Blue. Like the mono matrices, a few early alphas are found in my six-eye stereo sample, all 1A/1B, the next “oldest” was 1J/1H. The reverb tails and the decay of each note are so deliciously real, you just can’t do this on vinyl! The source for this tape is a Columbia production master – moreover, it’s a flat master, hence unequalised and uncompressed – essentially a safety copy of the original stereo master. While all labels may not have done this repress of promos, it may explain the discrepancy in the matrix numbers of the KOB you’ve mentioned, as well as the promos of Drew’s “Undercurrent” without a dg.

The expressive warmth, imaging clarity, frequency extension, and window-on-the-world breadth afforded by this new edition places music lovers right in the studio with the sextet. It is also quite long and in depth, be prepared, I suggest preparing a packed lunch for the journey.

DG, no CBS, label side 2: a) All Blues, b) flamenco Sketches; sleeve: Flamenco Sketches, All Blues, plastic bag inner. A first rate orchestra (The Boston Pops), a distinguished conductor (Arthur Fiedler), and a superb pianist (Earl Wild) combine to make this landmark recording something to be treasured. B) the modern remasters definitely equalise the mix, boosting bass and especially in the upper mids and treble. Each UHQR will be packaged in a deluxe box and will include a booklet detailing the entire process of making a UHQR along with a hand-signed certificate of inspection.

So much has been said and written about Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue, it's virtually impossible to summarize all the necessary info to the length of this page. This entry was posted in Miles Davis and tagged Adderly misprint, Columbia matrix codes, Kind of Blue, KoB first pressing, KoB side 2 track-list misprint by LondonJazzCollector. Hi – some of those high matrix codes are found both with and without CBS overprint -1BB/1BG: one CBS to five without, BG/BJ one CBS one without, so I guess a supply of CBS overprint labels were loaded into the hopper one day, with the same lacquers in use.By accepting all cookies, you agree to our use of cookies to deliver and maintain our services and site, improve the quality of Reddit, personalize Reddit content and advertising, and measure the effectiveness of advertising. D is found in every permutation, G and H are never found paired with each other, or at least not found in my sample (not to say they do not exist, possibly other letters, but none in my sample). All inserts are printed on high quality art board and include a track and information sheet for each reel, and a technical specification and quality control sheets for each reel, which even going as far as including the original Recording the Masters tape serial number labels. Then again I don’t have perfect pitch so the ¼ semi-tone or whatever it was supposed to be off doesn’t register with me, but the corrected version just loses something of its impetus.
