About this deal

A detective who is thoughtful, human, philosophical and deeply interested in people from all walks of life and what drives them. Simenon's brilliant stories come to life through remarkable scripts, actors and locals; truly mysterious and convincing; holding your interest without pause.

My only criticism is that the episodes would have worked better with a slightly longer running time, maybe 80 minutes. The direction, now by Nicholas Renton, Stuart Burge, and John Strickland greatly improves turning each episode into a superbly realised mini-movie, true to the spirit and the complexities of Simenon's wonderful novels. The storylines feature, amongst others, a burglar who discovers a murder while robbing a house, an exotic dancer who is murdered after tipping off police and the mysterious disappearance of a diamond merchant. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Rowan Atkinson credibly transforms himself into the seriously calm and curious police commissioner Maigret who risks his life to find the culprits.Bruno Cremer is outstanding as Maigret and the seedy nature of the Paris underground is well done and contrasts with the strange life of the better off when Maigret investigates in that setting. In his investigations, from Montmartre to the remote French countryside, Maigret encounters the dark side of life; yet, he calmly maintains an empathetic demeanor as he explores the complex motives that lie behind every crime.

Cremer's Maigret is taciturn and intense, preferring to wait silently while people reveal themselves, riding his men hard at times, especially the often incompetent officers he encounters outside of Paris; and his Paris (Prague) is always gray or pitch black, dark wet streets, his pipe glowing. The nephew is interested in girls more than crime though and pulls out the machismo whenever he appears to be slacking off, to impress his uncle. International film star Bruno Cremer (The Octopus, Sorcerer) is unsurpassed as Georges Simenon's beloved Parisian Inspector in this long-running French series based on the bestselling novels.Meanwhile, the Hungarian actors are awfully dubbed with ill-fitting voices and you get such laughable moments as when a featherweight French policeman speaks out with the voice of Sherrill Milnes. In addition, each episode is 90minutes long and the actor is very close to the Maigret, that I envisaged in my imagination, whilst reading the books. Michael Gambon is spot-on as Maigret, one of the best and most faithful to the books as a matter of fact.

Collection of six episodes from the crime drama series which follows French detective Jules Maigret (Bruno Cremer) as he takes on a number of complex cases in his unique, unhurried style. The last few nights I have been watching on Britbox the newest Maigret series starring Rowan Atkinson. The 4 episodes of Rowan Atkinson's "Maigret" total almost 350 minutes, making each episode almost an hour and a half.On assignment in the provinces, Maigret acts on a tip to find a distinguished judge dragging a corpse out of his house, presumably to dump in the sea. Sporting his pipe that seems a nod to Sherlock Holmes, the pragmatic, reserved, and refined Maigret investigates murders in his singular unhurried manner and inevitably discovers the truth. By the way, Rupert Davies recorded a really fun song in 1963, about pipe smoking, “Smoking My Pipe” .

The disk with "Maigret goes home" and "Maigret and the Death of Harbour Master" was a duplicate of disk disk five so the set is missing those episodes. Sporting his pipe that seems a nod to Sherlock Holmes, the pragmatic and refined Maigret investigates murders in his singular unhurried manner and inevitably discovers the truth. The DVD set includes two discs with two episodes and bonus material on each; the episodes are: Maigret Sets a Trap Disc 1-1; Maigret’s Dead Man Disc 1-2; Night at the Crossroads Disc 2-1; and, Maigret in Montmartre Disc 2-2.If you’ve already done that, your item hasn’t arrived, or it’s not as described, you can report that to Etsy by opening a case. This was before the feminist movement in France and Belgium, in the films taking place in the 1950s and 1960s. Secondly, and most importantly, there's the main cast all of whom are superb and carry the shoddy first season on their shoulders.
