About this deal

From intricacies of plotting and scene-setting to character development, Beswick expanded his skill set as he poured his heart into the pages. I loved the all the characters in this story and the attention to detail had me feeling like I was actually watching the events unfold. Right, positivos - the three leads, Zerina, Ulrik and Esara, carried my interest from start to finish. Also I feel the supporting characters of Darmour, Orjan and Navi could've been better off being introduced much earlier - I found them to be pretty interesting.

What's the story about: A Sea of Sorrow and Scorn tells the next story of Levanthria from a differing groups of characters than the first book. Esara on the other hand was annoying and a bit 2 dimensional, couldn’t fully get to grip on what age she was supposed to be.To the point there was one or two moments in this book which made me well up, which has never happened as far as reading a book goes. Beswick's writing is similar to the first book in that it's simple, easy to access, cliché in places, but will surprise you with poignancy at times.

The story revolves around two characters who initially have separate stories but eventually come together.

The ending was a bit of a surprise, and too rushed but definitely has me intrigued and happy to read on in the series. I was a little sceptical at first as I knew it was set in the same realm but a completely different story. Although the book offers excellent world building and interesting characters, the story lacks excitement and seems to drag on, with only a few captivating action scenes.

These stories aren't especially long compared to some of the epics I am used to reading and I am quite enjoying the punchy style this author brings to the table. And the author tried to make us care for them, but we barely learned their names before they were out and we were left with a confusing death, some promise for vengeance and absolutely no background info on anyone. In this book you meet 3 characters, a soldier Ulrik who comes back from working on one of the Kings merchant boats to find his mother and his younger sister Esara missing.

The characters on the horse, two of which are soaking wet, don't notice that they're soaking wet until after they 'stop to rest the horse' and have a conversation where they politely introduce themselves to each other. Let's start with the horse that the main character rides for three days, after seven years of not being around horses. While this makes for faster paced storytelling, I found the pacing of the book to become rather slow once the two character were united. His ultimate hope is that readers grappling with similar issues may find solace in his stories, realizing that they're not alone, that it's okay to feel the way they do, and that it's important to open up and share. It seems like all of these books are just a mashup of all the different heroes and fairy tales mushed together and it's not as appealing as you might think. While the story is a new one, the world is the same and this familiarity provides a comfortable awareness to what goes on and what to expect. While the plot had potential, there wasn't enough substance to keep me guessing throughout my listen. I will get to book three only to see if we revisit book one characters or if we get any closer to tying it all together.
